50 years ago: In response to publicity received after a massive snowstorm in Durango, a large group of skiers from Wichita, Kansas, checked into the Strater Hotel to hit the slopes at Purgatory.

25 years ago: Ku Klux Klan leader Shawn Slater made an appearance during a racial awareness forum at Fort Lewis College, which cost FLC a total of $53,400 in legal, administrative and security expenses.
