100 years ago: “The Automobile Blue Book Company writes that they have received the complete log of the Wolf Creek Pass highway from Durango to Alamosa, and that it will appear in the Blue Book this year. ... Hundreds of auto tourists will thus learn of the new highway through the Blue Book, and will visit the San Juan this coming summer.”

75 years ago: “Civil Service examinations for the position of border patrolman will be given to 12 applicants at the post office. Usually, rigid physical requirements are a feature of this examination.”

50 years ago: “The students of Durango High School are now the proud foster parents of a bright-eyed, 7-year-old boy from Finland named Olli. Olli, who is sponsored by the Christian Children’s Fund, is being financed by the DHS Student Council and has now become the ward of all the students at the high school. The funds from the Powder Puff football game are being used for his upkeep and support. The $120 will extend for one year.”

25 years ago: “The 9-R School Board approved flexible scheduling at Durango High School for 1991-92 school year. ... With flexible scheduling, students will sign up for classes in a process more similar to college registration. Some classes will meet fewer than five days a week. Classes that require more than one 52-minute period in a day will run through two periods.”
