50 years ago: “Dr. and Mrs. Robert W. Ashe of Tempe, Arizona, announced their daughter, Barbara Ruth, was engaged to Durango local John W. Walkington, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Walkington. The Walkington family lived at 2402 Delwood Ave. The wedding date was set for May 27, 1967. Both lovebirds were in their final year at Arizona State University.”
25 years ago: “Colorado Ku Klux Klan leader Shawn Slater accepted an invitation to participate in a panel discussion at Fort Lewis College in February. The FLC administration feared that the controversy could cause a ‘small civil war’ and had yet to organize enough security for the event, estimating the cost at $15,000.”
