And the West is History

50 years ago: “Mrs. Robert Van Horn, a leader in the local campaign to bring down grocery prices, was in yesterday with a progress report. She and Mrs. Paul Erickson, both of whom had written the Herald about the situation, were largely responsible for the turnout of about 100 housewives at a meeting on the subject. Mrs. Van Horn predicts that shortly the three major grocery stores will announce plans for Sunday closing as has already been done in the Denver area.”

25 years ago: “The Animas-La Plata Water Conservancy District board violated the Colorado public records law by adopting hourly fees for searching board records, the district attorney said. District Attorney Vic Reichman reviewed the law at the request of Mike Black, a member of the Taxpayers for the Animas River, a group that opposes the A-LP project. Violation of the law is a misdemeanor, but Reichman said he is interested in solving the problem, not prosecuting.”
