100 years ago: KLINE – “The Kline Telephone Co., is the latest organization of the mesa. The object is to buy the Miller-Miller Merct Co. line to Fort Lewis, then connect up with Mt. States Co. at Durango. We do not know the particulars, but from what we have heard we think it a good move as we want free exchange with Durango, or we want no phone.”
75 years ago: “Very recently Henry Lemon bought the Mary Y. Robertson place of 240 acres on the Florida, below the Falfa Switch. There he will raise hay and winter his stock from his upper Florida ranch.”
50 years ago: “The Durango chapter of the Future Homemakers of America is busy, for this is FHA week. Activities include community cleanup projects, helping the Renegades in the Book Fair and planting flowers near the Arts and Science building of the high school. Over one-half million Future Homemakers in states throughout the nation will observe the week.”
25 years ago: “Carrying signs that read ‘Access now’ and ‘FLC, what part of obey the law don’t you understand?,’ about 40 protesters, many of them in wheelchairs, marched at Fort Lewis College demanding that the college comply with accessibility regulations. The protesters tried to access the school’s admission office, but those in wheelchairs found they couldn’t enter the building because of stairs leading to the entrance.”
