100 years ago: Mrs. John Rhodes returned to Elco after she purchased supplies in Durango. She was recovering slowly “from illness that kept her an invalid for nearly a year.”
75 years ago: A lumber company and two residences in Ouray were completely destroyed by fire. The stock of finish and shingles ignited and high winds spread flames throughout the mill and to the neighboring houses.
50 years ago: There were two almost identical accidents in the area involving a truck that was towing a horse trailer. In both instances, the truck pulled into the right shoulder to let traffic pass, and rolled onto its side when the horses shifted their weight inside the trailer.
25 years ago: A juvenile called 911 several times and repeatedly told the dispatcher to “shut up.”
