100 years ago: “The high school building has been thoroughly cleaned and scrubbed during the Christmas holidays. Glass ventilators have been put in each window in every room to keep drafts off the pupils so they will not be so liable to catch cold in the school room.”
75 years ago: An advertisement for Trimble Springs read: “For a Happy New Year! Plan your new year entertainment at Trimble Springs with Kay Kurly’s Big Time Band. $1 per couple. First 50 couples get FREE tickets to the gala New Year’s Eve celebration! Free hats, horns, serpentines and fun for all at the place where everybody goes.”
50 years ago: “The Durango area has a good start on this year’s moisture, with a fifth of the long-time average for January already logged in the first two days of the month. The official measurement shows 0.34 of an inch already in January 1965, against no moisture by this time in 1964. The long-time average for all of January is 1.57 inches.”
25 years ago: “Ski areas rejoiced as a fast-moving snowstorm dumped up to a foot of snow in some parts of Southwest Colorado. Eight inches were recorded in Durango with light snow continuing.”
