100 years ago: The superintendent of La Plata County schools was in Durango visiting the local school.

75 years ago: A blockade on U.S. Highway 550 near Red Mountain caused by an avalanche held up four Durango men who were trying to get back to the city.

50 years ago: A 9-year-old Durango girl was struck by a car at the intersection of Main Avenue and Camino del Rio and received multiple injuries, including a “possible” concussion, compound fractures of the right leg, multiple cuts and bruises, and loss of some teeth. Her condition was said by Mercy Hospital to be improving.

25 years ago: The Colorado Division of Wildlife announced that it may have stumbled across more evidence of methane contamination with a discovery of diseased fish in the Animas River near a natural gas well in Bondad.
