100 years ago: Mrs. W.B. Wheeler of Junction Creek commuted to La Plata City during the morning to spend a couple days with her friend, Mrs. Ernest Beach, who was slightly ill at the time.

75 years ago: Jack O’Rourke of Durango reported to Kelly Field in Texas for preliminary training as a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was sent to Texas one day after officially enlisting in Denver.

50 Years Ago: The cost of the proposed water system improvement project was estimated at $750,000. The three-phase project would increase filtered water production by 4.5 million gallons per day.

25 years ago: Two snowboarders from Albuquerque skied out of bounds near Chairlift No. 8 at Purgatory Resort, became lost and were arrested upon being found by searchers combing the area.
