100 years ago: “L.S. Lively, operator of the passenger station, is enjoying a few days’ layoff, recuperating from a slight attack of spring fever, cold in the head and sore eyes from seeing too many pretty girls waiting for trains.”
75 years ago: “Durango is fairly well populated with Fort Lewis College students this week, this being the week of spring vacation at Fort Lewis.”
50 years ago: “Charlie Isgar, 8-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Art Isgar, may think he is Tarzan, but apparently he isn’t quite as skilled at tree swinging. He was swinging on a rope fastened to a pine tree in his yard when he fell about 20 feet and broke his left arm. While he had to spend the night in the hospital, he is home now with a cast on his arm.”
25 years ago: “The first extensive survey of Durangoans’ opinions on recreation will begin April 7 when students hand out questionnaires to about 700 residents. From archery to tennis, residents will be asked what Parks and Recreation Department programs they use. And there will be a list – karate, weightlifting, teen center – of the kinds of activities they would use if available.”
