100 years ago: “To relieve and aid mining conditions in this section, on the request of a number of mining men from various parts of the state, including the San Juan Basin, Congressman Edward T. Taylor has taken up the matter of introducing a bill in Congress to relieve mining men from doing this year’s assessment work on placer and lode mining claims. The bill was introduced.”

75 years ago: “Just when the male bowlers thought they had the situation under control they discover that their supremacy is being threatened by a lot of bowling gals who make all sorts of superior claims regarding their ability. Not only do the gals make the claims, but they start right out to prove them. The latest gesture of proof is the organization of four bowling teams.”

50 years ago: The following appeared in the section titled Girl About Town: “The ladies are talking about ... Mrs. Don Watters in a blue flannel shift jumper with a blue and green batik print blouse.”

25 years ago: “Community Hospital is betting a diet program will add girth to its bottom line. The board of directors approved an allocation of $35,000 in start-up costs to get the diet program, Optifast, underway. The program is medically sound and has a profit potential of $92,000 in the first year.”
