And the West is History

100 years ago: “Edward Pedwell, from the Florida, brought a fine lot of butter into town and spent some of the proceeds for what appealed most to him in the local stores.”

75 years ago: “The Durango Music Club will present Arthur W. Henderson, renowned concert pianist. Henderson is a member of the music faculty, Colorado State College of Education at Greeley. He is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, Rochester, N.Y.”

50 years ago: “With the first appreciable snow of the season making spectators at the doubleheader football games uncomfortable, motorists also felt the first pinch of winter. The state patrol reported snow and overcast conditions on the mountain passes both to the north and east, and at various times were recommending chains or snow tires for vehicles on these roads.”

25 years ago: “Boulevard residents turned out – about one for every foot of curb that would be removed – to object to changes in the intersection at East Third Avenue and Sixth Street. They called it a ‘horrible, horrendous mistake,’ ‘dangerous thinking,’ and ‘tearing up a historic district.’”
