75 years ago: “Bruce Sullivan, sheriff-elect of La Plata County, authorizes announcement of the appointment of Sam Dunger of Marvel as undersheriff. Dunger is a native of the San Juan, having been born at Pagosa Springs 41 years ago.”
50 years ago: The following appeared in the section titled Silverton News: “It’s beginning to look like Christmas. The town tree is up, and gradually all over town, decorating is being done.”
25 years ago: “A new handle tow serving about 10 acres of skiing terrain has been installed at Hesperus Ski area, 11 miles west of Durango on U.S. 160. James Pitcher, owner and operator of the area, said the new tow and surrounding area is aimed at children and new skiers.”
