100 years ago: “The Silverton train brought down four cars of ore from that camp. One from Sunnyside to Durango, one from the same mine to the United States Zinc Company at Blende, Colorado, one from the Iowa Tiger for Salida and one from the S.F. & G. Leasing Company to the local smelter.”
75 years ago: “The Kline side camp will be accompanied during the coming summer. Approximately 40 enrollees will be transferred from the camp at Cortez. Enrollees and technicians will assist in fulfilling soil conservation work agreements between the soil conservation service and co-operators living in the vicinity of Kline and Redmesa.”
50 years ago: “With warming weather both at lower and higher altitudes, the Animas River has begun its annual spring rise, currently at the rate of about four inches per day. The Western Colorado Power Co. plant at 14th Street reported an 8 a.m. reading of 3.27 feet, up more than seven inches from Saturday mornings reading of 2.65 feet.”
25 years ago: “Leonel Silva was Durango’s first Hispanic mayor. Now, he’s also the second. Silva, who became mayor the first time in 1986, got the nod again from fellow City Council members.”
