100 years ago: H.C. Foster of Chicago “came in on a scouting trip for the Chicago Cubs at the ball game between the prints and the barbers.”

75 years ago: State highway officials improved “many roads throughout the San Juan basin, particularly in the Durango area, as result of the installation of a vanadium mill.”

50 years ago: Steven Knipp, a 17-year old from Durango, took a spill on his motorcycle while heading north on U.S. Highway 550. He refused to be taken to the hospital, and sustained abrasions on his right shoulder and arm.

25 years ago: Someone reported hearing a gunshot in the 100 block of East Sixth Avenue, but it turned out to be kids playing with fireworks.
