50 years ago: Mesa Verde National Park announced record-breaking attendance for March 1967 because of clear weather and an early Easter. The park recorded 7,222 visitors, which was close to an 88-percent increase compared to the 3,849 people who visited in March the previous year.
25 years ago: J. Paul Brown became the sole candidate for La Plata County commissioner in District 3 after Bill Westendorff, who ran against Brown in 1988, announced his decision to opt out of the election.
