And the West is History

100 years ago: “Are you ready to help entertain those who visit the Colorado-New Mexico Fair? Hospitality is the cleverest kind of advertising.”

75 years ago: “One night this week an airplane coming into Durango had to fly around for nearly an hour before enough cars got up to the airport to light the field so the pilot could land the ship. There is another flyer who won’t return to Durango unless he comes in the daytime when he can see to land. The Durango airport is still just a ‘part-time’ affair.”

50 years ago: “In an economy move, Mercy hospital is utilizing the one nursing station on the second floor in the new wing and has abandoned the nursing station on the second floor in the old wing. Patients at the back of the old wing have been moved closer to the new wing and team nursing is being employed. The closed part may be opened any time it is needed.”

25 years ago: “College entrance examination scores for Colorado students were down slightly this year, compared with 1987, but still remained above the national average. Durango students, however, scored higher, according to a 9-R School District official.”
