75 years ago: “The collision of two autos in Durango Friday night resulted in a $12.50 fine for one of the drivers. Police Officer Bill Cook said a car went through a stop sign on lower Main Avenue and crashed into an auto.”

50 years ago: “Dr. Chester M. Wigton, Durango physician and president of the Durango Chamber of Commerce, Monday told the Colorado State Department of Public Health that radioactive dust from the Vanadium Corporation of America tailings pile blows over Durango and presents an immediate health hazard.”

25 years ago: “Four members of the local Colorado Army National Guard 928th Medical Company (Ambulance) have been recommended to be awarded Bronze Stars for their exemplary performance in the Persian Gulf. First Lt. Joe Bray, commander of the Durango detachment of the 928th, Company Commander Capt. Marc Ficco and 2nd Lts. Martha Martinez and Erik Rodriquez of the unit’s headquarters in Cortez have been recommended for the award.”
