100 years ago: “A new ore, valuable for fluxing purposes in the manufacture of iron and steel products, has been discovered in the vicinity of Cortez, Montezuma County. It is called ‘hallarite’ after its discoverer.”
75 years ago: “Paint-up, cleanup has been going on for several months, according to the Durango Paint Company. Mr. Smith, the manager, stated the other day that his firm had all they can do for the past few months and more and more orders piling up.”
50 years ago: “A second work train went out this morning with a crew to work on the Denver and Rio Grande Western railroad tracks just south of Silverton, station manager Amos Cordova said. There is still some snow on the tracks, but Cordova believes there wasn’t much winter damage.”
