100 years ago: The gasoline shortage was “again the trouble in Durango.” A tank car was expected to arrive in a few days time.
75 years ago: Private Reneiglo Garcia, son of Mr. and Mrs. Prospero Garcia of Durango, was transferred to Camp Crowden, Missouri, to work at the engineering department there.
50 years ago: Arson was suspected in a fire call to Santa Rita, which caused an estimated several thousand dollars damage to telephone company equipment. Three trucks and three volunteer firefighters arrived on scene to a lumber pile and coal shed up in flames, and a burned telephone cable, which shorted-out all lines of the Mountain States Telephone Co.
25 years ago: The first major snow of the season dropped more than a foot of snow on the slopes at Purgatory Resort. Opening day was set for Nov. 25.
