100 years ago: W.H. Norton was issued an order for 16,000 potatoes for “Uncle Sam’s army.”

75 years ago: Sen. Ed Johnson announced that the War Production Board requisitioned the Denver & Rio Grande Western railroad with all of its equipment between Durango and Alamosa.

50 years ago: The advisory committee of the Title III Reading Program met and concluded that the program would continue in the “new trailer-type buildings” at Riverview, Park and Needham elementary schools, and in the existing buildings at Fort Lewis Mesa and Florida Mesa elementary schools.

25 years ago: Budget time for the city was ushered in by the City Council at a work session to discuss the $3.8 million in capital projects that were planned in 1992.
