100 years ago: In retiring from his official duties as mayor of Durango, A. F. Hood extended a courtesy, in the form of an elaborate banquet, to his coworkers, the new officers, and the representatives of the press. The event will be one to remembered with pleasure by the participants.
75 years ago: In a school election, Animas City voters voted on consolidating the Animas City school district with Durango school district No. 9 to give the children of the former city better educational facilities such as the Durango schools provide. The consolidation was approved by voters 53 to 3.
50 years ago: First of the Rio Grande-land developments to be opened under new management is the newly-named Rio Grande Hotel, a joint operation of the former Durango and Linmore hotels.
25 years ago: An advertisement for Holiday Inn, 800 Camino del Rio, read: Yesterdays Restaurant & Lounge presents ... Denver Nugget Basketball Playoffs ... on our wide screen TV. During the game enjoy complimentary hors doeuvres (while they last).
