And the West is History

100 years ago: “Dr. Condit of Silverton passed thru to Cheyenne this morning, where he will testify for the third time in the “Bob” Meldrum murder trial.”

75 YEARS AGO: “When we moan about the hot weather in Durango, and the official observer, Bob Ayres, reveals that the highest the thermometer has gone this summer is 86 degrees, people from the South and Middle West have a right to raise both eyebrows in wonder.”

50 YEARS AGO: “Two Durango brothers are receiving the painful 14-day shot treatment to prevent rabies after they handled a bat suspected of having the disease. ... The two boys were from a group who killed more than a dozen bats one evening. Since rabies is 100% fatal in humans without preventative treatment, it was imperative to begin the 14-day shot treatment.”

25 YEARS AGO: “The sky was clear, the planes were fueled and thousands of people had gathered at the airport. What a great day for an air show ... an estimated 9,000 to 10,000 people enjoyed the fourth annual Durango-Four Corners Air Show.”
