50 years ago: “Durango is within the top 20 cities for active consideration for establishment of a U.S. weather station. Earlier this month both the city council and chamber of commerce had contacted the Colorado congressional delegation in regard to speeding up the long sought installation.”

25 years ago: “You’ve probably seen hundreds of horse races and perhaps even a dog race here and there ... but burro racing? That sounds like a contradiction in terms. But burro racing it is, and the pro and amateur racing were the main event at the Vallecito Western Jamboree. Nine racers competed in the pro division.”
