50 years ago: HESPERUS – “Hesperus Cafe and Store opened for business on April 1 under the management of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Schmid, who moved here from northern California. Clifford Schmid had lived in the Hesperus area for several years before going to Big Bend, Calif., about three years ago. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Schmid.”
25 years ago: “The La Plata County Hospital District directors approved a $216,000 bid for renovations at the Durango Center for Behavioral Health, the former La Plata Community Hospital, and board members introduced a plan to integrate adolescent services offered in the community.”
