The next occasion, the eighth-grade graduates. It marks a real event in the career of the schools as every member of the class passed and nearly everyone averaged above 90.”
75 years ago: “Things are looking up in Durango as far as the cleanup campaign is concerned. With the addition of new buildings and the remodeling of others. Little by little our fair city’s face is being ‘lifted.’”
50 years ago: “In spite of rain, generally throughout the drainage, the Animas River dropped nearly eight tenths of a foot in the 24 hours ended this morning. Western Colorado Power Co. plant at 15th Street reported the river state at 4.33 feet this morning, down from 5.11 feet at the same hour Thursday.”
25 years ago: “One Republican candidate for La Plata County Commissioner is dead serious about a resolution his fellow party members adopted in jest. In response to a resolution calling for commissioners and candidates ‘to inspect county-maintained roads within their district from the seat of a bicycle’ – adopted by Republicans at the County Assembly April 30 – District 2 candidate Jeff Bryson has vowed to ride every paved mile of county road before the Aug. 9 primary election.”
