100 years ago: Mrs. Ward Weaver transacted business matters in the city.
75 years ago: According to Fire Chief Dietrich, there was a big shepherd dog stranded on a rock in the Animas River just below the bridge that crosses to the old smelter. He had probably been there for a day or two, and it was impossible to reach the animal with a ladder or rope.
50 years ago: An event preceding the 1968 Fine Arts Festival in Durango, an art show featuring the works of Durango High School students, would be held at the art gallery in the Strater Arcade.
25 years ago: The Durango High School swim team finished last in a five-way meet in Montrose.
