100 years ago: “Bert Chapman, a son-in-law of S.S. Merry, returned from the lower La Platas, where he has been mining for some time. He believes he has made a good strike of rich ore and brought in a bag of samples which show considerable gold values.”
75 years ago: “Thirty-seven were present to enjoy the outing to Mesa Verde National Park of the Garden Club of Durango. The party, riding in eight cars, left Durango for the park. At the park they were conducted to the spacious lodge which overlooks the cliff ruins, where a short business meeting was held and an excellent program given.”
