100 years ago: “The new year was ushered in, in this thriving metrop by the usual amount of noise – bells, whistles, guns and horns. Some gun went off about 12:30 that is likely to cause a lot of trouble, if the report can be believed.”
75 years ago: “Music club carolers who brought happiness and pleasure to many listeners as they paused to sing around their prettily lighted Christmas tree as it moved from one candle-lighted window to another throughout the city, received a rich reward at the close of their journey. When they were invited to the home of Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Lane for a late supper.”
50 years ago: MESA VERDE – “Travel to Mesa Verde National Park was down 500 in December from the previous year, but the total for all of 1965 set a new record at 378,300, nearly 10 percent greater than the 344,400 in 1964.”
25 years ago: “Fresh snow and balmy temperatures surprised early risers accustomed to recent sub-zero mornings. A tropical storm system that arrived in Southwest Colorado dropped 1 to 7 inches of fresh snow and kept temperatures hovering around freezing. Purgatory Ski Resort reported a ‘powder frenzy.’”
