100 years ago: “The Allen Zanoni and Fattor lease on a portion of the Silver Lake Mine shipping large quantities of crude ore is doing fine work this winter, and of a good grade. Last month, they shipped 53 carloads to the Durango smelter, making the largest tonnage shipped by any one property to the smelter that month.”
75 years ago: “A matinee provided entertainment for guests of Jean Meyer who gathered to help her celebrate her 9th birthday. After the picture, Jean brought her guests home, where they were treated to delicious and elaborate refreshments. The party table was gay and bright.”
50 years ago: “Over 1,200 books have been collected for the Renegade Book Fair to run all this week in the empty building on Main Avenue next to Gardenswartz. ... The money taken in at the book fair is used for scholarships and other aids to handicapped persons in the area.”
25 years ago: An advertisement for the Durango Herald read, “Carriers needed! 3000-3100 blocks of 3rd, 4th and 5th Avenue. Kids, your good organizational skills, mature attitude and responsibility are what we need at the Herald! Now’s the time to show your stuff AND earn money at the same time by being a Herald carrier!”
