75 years ago: There was an announcement, at request of the war department, that all truck registration would be handled by the American Legion as an emergency defense service. The Legion was also made responsible for enrolling all eligible veterans in La Plata County in order to meet the demand for emergency defense services.
50 Years Ago: The bill authorizing construction, operation and maintenance of the Colorado River Basin Project was the topic of discussion at a public meeting held at the Fort Lewis Mesa school. The Animas-La Plata Federal Reclamation Project would not begin without approval from Colorado and New Mexico state officials.
25 years ago: Dozens of drivers pulled off the road and exited their vehicles to watch a herd of elk tromp through the snow fields in the north Animas Valley.
