100 years ago: The paper received several complaints about grasshoppers, cut-worms, and wire-worms that were attacking crops. The paper ran a recipe for Grasshopper Control Poison to help counter the complaints.

75 years ago: Ten brownie scouts had a “sizzling bacon breakfast, just like one enjoyed by the big folks” on Reservoir Hill. A “leisurely return hike to Durango finished the memorable outing.”

50 years ago: The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference expanded into a 17-team league. Fort Lewis College was placed in the Mountain Division with Adams State College, College of Southern Utah, Colorado School of Mines, New Mexico Highlands University, Regis University, Western New Mexico State, Westminster College and Western State College.

25 years ago: The Community Hospital disbanded to end a 30-year hospital war. Mercy Medical Center became the only hospital in the region.
