And the West is History

100 years ago: “Heavy showers marred the opening day of the spring race meeting now being held at the fairgrounds track under the auspices of the San Juan Horsemen’s Association. The threatening weather also held the attendance down to about 300.”

75 years ago: “Five Durango men flew to Albuquerque to attend a big air show held there in which a famous stunt flyer pulled tricks out of his bag and satisfied a large crowd of spectators.”

50 years ago: An advertisement for Levi’s read: “Now they come in colors too! Slim fit White Levi’s. They’re still the same slim, trim and rugged pants you call White Levi’s. But now you can get ’em in your favorite sportswear shades. Fill out your wardrobe with a couple of pairs – in the colors you like best.”

25 years ago: “The Durango City Council will hold a public hearing on the Carriage House Bed-and-breakfast. Robyn Sergejev has applied for a conditional use permit to operate a bed-and-breakfast at 1237 East Third Ave. It would consist of five bedrooms in the main house and carriage house which have been used for apartments.”
