100 years ago: “In regular session the city commissioners passed the appropriation ordinance for the year 1914, totalling $71,230 for distribution among the various departments of the city. The largest item carried in the ordinance is an appropriation of $16,000 for the water department.”

75 years ago: An advertisement read: “Here is a good home! For sale: A modern, five-room home with bath, cellar and garage, completely furnished ready to move into located on Sixth Avenue between Sixth and Seventh streets. Sidewalks, curb and oil paving in and paid for. Price $2,800.00 complete with $500 down and easy monthly payments. – Turner Investment Co.”

50 years ago: The following appeared in the section called Girl About Town: “Leslie Dorsey, designer of interiors at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs and a Durango resident for several weeks last spring, is the design consultant for several pages in the December issue of The Ladies Home Journal. The pages concern a Victorian-flavored Christmas.”

25 years ago: “The Grand Junction Tigers, showing why the deserve to be the state’s top ranked Class 3A football team, claimed their first championship in 31 years with a 23-13 victory over the Durango Demons.”
