100 years ago: “S.E. Land, assistant state superintendent of fish hatcheries of Denver, is in the city with another supply of fish eggs to be placed in the local hatchery. There are now about one and one-half million eggs being cared for here.”
75 years ago: “The Forest Service makes a plea to dwellers on private land within the bounds of the national forest to spare the Christmas trees as much as possible. Indiscriminate cutting of trees leads to soil erosion, which has become recognized as one of the most serious national problems.”
50 years ago: “Mrs. Schaefer fell and cracked a pelvic bone about three weeks ago and is having a painful recovery. This is a most unfortunate time of year to be out of commission with all the things that need to be done.”
25 years ago: “The San Juans may be brown but area businessmen are far from blue, and many remain optimistic that plenty of snow will arrive in time for Christmas. Good ski trade this early in the season has always been a bonus, not a given, so in the past businesses that cater to skiers have not counted on substantial revenue this early in December.”
