100 years ago: The local Black Diamond Kings “shot up the price per ton on coal to $6.25.”

75 years ago: San Juan County elected “every Republican on the ticket,” with the exception of Sheriff Fred Patterson, who was re-elected.

50 years ago: The “paradox of alcoholism” was discussed during a day-long workshop called “A Community Approach to Alcohol Problems” at Fort Lewis College. The event was sponsored by the San Juan Basin Committee on Alcohol Problems, San Juan Basin Health Unit and Colorado State Department of Public Health.

25 years ago: Fort Lewis Mesa Fire Protection District extinguished a house fire at the junction of county roads 136 and 128. The vacant house was destroyed, though nothing else burned and nobody was hurt.
