100 years ago: “As a result of a derailment and wreck on the Southern branch 5 miles this side of Mancos, when the entire train left the track, with the exception of the engine, and toppled over into the ditch, four persons were brought here on the southbound train and placed in Mercy hospital for attention. ... The accident occurred when the train was running at a low rate of speed. The women’s coach is said to have left the track first pulling the other cars after it.”
75 years ago: “Grace Windsor, clerk at Graden’s, is swallowing gingerly this week, having been deprived of the benefit of tonsils last week. Phooey, says she to those who lightly refer to a tonsillectomy as one of the minor annoyances.”
50 years ago: “Believe it or not, the Durango area has nearly ideal weather.
