100 years ago: “Constable Jack Couch came back home and he was such a fine-looking sight, what with his whiskers and the wood ticks that stuck to him and the chips of greasewood on his clothes, that his wife at first didn’t know him. He had taken the sheep that were recently sold under foreclosure to Chas Heather and delivered them on the Heather Bros. range near the head of the Florida.”
75 years ago: “Work was begun on the new additions and improvements at the state highway building on Sixth Street. A force of nine men is at work excavating for the additional buildings and preparing forms for the pouring of concrete.”
50 years ago: The following appeared in the section titled Bayfield News: “A number of our people are going or are on camping trips into our lovely mountains. Those who have returned have enjoyed seeing so many beautiful wildflowers even though we have had very little rainfall until lately to keep them alive. They are blooming to make our people happy.”
25 years ago: The Gaslight Twin, 102 5th St., was showing “Red Heat” starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Belushi, and “The Principal” starring James Belushi and Louis Gossett Jr.
