100 years ago: “That the Bulldozer Mine, which was put out of business temporarily last fall by a snowslide that destroyed part of the machinery and some of the buildings, and which was sold at sheriff’s sale last week to satisfy a judgement obtained in district court, will be worked as soon as it is possible to get to the property and necessary repairs, was stated yesterday by Fred Davy of Durango, the former manager.”
75 years ago: “Inherent honesty displayed by a 12-year-old Durango boy really paid when it resulted in a $5 reward after he had returned to the owner a billfold containing $55 in currency. The boy, George Gallupe, had gone to a movie and while seated he dropped a coin. In the search for his dime, he found not only the coin but a billfold with $55 in bills.”
50 years ago: An advertisement for The Western Colorado Power Co. read: “5 cents of electricity will cook 220 pancakes to a king’s taste.”
25 years ago: “Confusion over the payoff of Lotto’s grand prizes hasn’t kept La Plata County residents from buying a chance at winning. Merchants with Lotto outlets report varying sales of 40 to 400 tickets for the new electric lottery game’s first week. Parsons Drug in Durango estimated 70-80 Lotto cards sold daily last week.”
