Herald<br><br>This picture and the following cutline appeared in the Oct. 20, 1963: “At the old Runck place, four miles north of Cortez, apples are in abundance. There will be six or seven thousand bushels on the Runck place. The crops are processed in the Elvin Roundtree apple shed. Apples are sort and only the best are packed for shipping.”

100 years ago: “The jury in the case of the state against Andy Frost and Peter Litz charged jointly with horse stealing, returned a verdict finding Frost guilty of the charge. They were unable to agree as to the guilt of the other defendant and were discharged.”

75 years ago: “The Colorado administrator for WPA, received presidential approval of $31,070 WPA project for continual operation of sewing rooms in La Plata County. The state department of public welfare and the La Plata Commissioners will distribute products of the sewing rooms to needy families and charitable institutions without charge.”

50 years ago: “Santa Claus will make his first 1963 appearance in Durango Nov. 29 when Durango Mayor R.E. (Pat) O’Brien turns on the downtown Christmas lights.”

25 years ago: “Settlements have been reached for claims rising out of January’s disastrous Continental Express plane crash near Durango well before federal authorities have determined a cause. An attorney for Continental Express said more than one settlement had been reached, although he didn’t divulge any more details.”
