100 years ago: An Ignacio juvenile, “who swiped a $10 saddle” about a month before and was released on probation in the custody of his mother, was “in bad again.” His mother surrendered custody of the boy for “being incorrigible,” and Sheriff Alexander placed him in jail until he was taken to the state industrial school for boys in Golden.
75 years ago: Eggs were “getting to be an aristocratic diet” at 50 cents a dozen, said Mrs. E.W. Rhodes of Tiffany.
50 years ago: It was announced that all Christmas decorations along Main Avenue would be raised 2 feet. “We started early with decorations so we could rectify any mistakes,” said Mike Valentine, Chamber of Commerce manager.
25 years ago: For the third time in four years, the Animas Fire Protection District found itself without a chief, after the board accepted Pete DeChant’s resignation.
