100 years ago: “As the latest move on the part of the anti-saloon element of the town of Ignacio, a hearing on an application for a temporary injunction to restrain the mayor and town board from granting any licenses will be heard in the district court.”

75 years ago: “Postmaster M.J. Brennan released statistics which revealed that the Durango post office receipts of 1939 had boosted the office from second-class to a first-class rating. Gross total receipts in 1939 at the Durango post officer were $44,629, according to Postmaster Brennan – safely over the $44,500 minimum required for a first-class designation.”

50 years ago: “Visits to Mesa Verde National Park during 1964 totaled 344,400, a 6 percent increase over 1963’s total of 325,300.”

25 years ago: “The Southern Ute Tribal Council has agreed to hold a recall election after its election commission validated 189 out of 206 signatures on a petition presented to the council in December. At a special election Feb. 2, tribal members will be asked if councilmen should be recalled and removed from office.”
