100 years ago: “Stock Inspector Sam Ethridge came in on the Southern from Dolores, where he inspected several flocks of sheep that needed dipping for scabies.”

75 years ago: “While boys and girls of all sizes and ages overflowed the sidewalk in front of the Kiva officials of the J.C. Penney company smiled with satisfaction. Penney’s was giving a free show with Kiva cooperation, for the boys and girls who next Tuesday will go trooping into the classrooms.”

50 years ago: “Ignacio school district shows about a four percent increase in enrollment throughout the system. Bayfield on the other hand, shows a smaller 1964 enrollment than that of 1963 with the exception of the senior class. Bayfield has 29 students in its senior class, an increase of 10.”

25 years ago: “Durango police are concerned that three ‘phony’ bomb threats over the Labor Day weekend may lower the guard of citizens if the real thing comes along.” The threatened businesses included the Durango Mall, Kentucky Fried Chicken and Parsons Drug.
