100 years ago: “Herder Harry Owen reported to the commissioners that 27 head of stock were impounded during the month. Health Officer Hobby reported one case each of scarlet fever, diphtheria and chickenpox. The last named disease does not require quarantine.”

75 years Ago: “Major O. K. Nabors of Durango received a telegram from Theodore Roosevelt, Jr. inviting him to assume the chairmanship of a local united council committee the purpose of which will be sponsoring a ‘Bowl of Rice’ party in Durango to raise funds for aiding the thousands of Chinese civilians who are in dire need as a result of the Japanese aggression.”

50 years ago: “Because the water is needed for cleaning, sterilizing and testing of the new 7.2 million gallon storage tank at the city filtration plant, there will be no irrigation permitted Wednesday or Thursday.”

25 years ago: “This years Iron Horse Bicycle Classic attracted a record number of participants, up 20 percent from last year. Of the 1,300 bicyclists who entered races during the three-day event, about 1,000 were from out-of-town.”
