100 years ago: In weather news, winter paid Durango “a return engagement during the early morning hours. Newspaper folk and others who were up at 5:30 saw Smelter hill and Perins dotted with snow.”

75 years ago: All Durango stores, “with exception of drug and confectioners,” were closed in observance of Memorial Day.

50 years ago: James Gore was approved as the new Durango School District 9-R director of special projects.

25 years ago: Gregory Kirk Hubbard, a 42-year-old man from San Angelo, Texas, pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide that involved a pickup truck going off a cliff in the La Plata Canyon.
