100 years ago: The Heather Brothers of Hesperus “made a slide into town” while on a “supply-buying tour” to “load up on enough grub to supply them until the Fourth of July.”
75 years ago: A stock pile of more than 500 tons of ore from the Dove Creek mining district was being hauled to the vanadium mill in Durango.
50 years ago: Registered trail guides Bill Crangle and Willard Gore offered horseback rides at Mill Creek Lodge for $2 an hour and $12 a day.
25 years ago: Animas Fire Protection District rescue workers responded to a vehicle collision and rollover in the 1100 block of U.S. Highway 550 near the New Mexico line. People involved in the crash were taken to Mercy Medical Center to receive treatment.
