50 YEARS AGO: “A 32-inch, 12-pound walleyed pike was taken from Summit Lake near Cortez during a state fisheries survey. 250,000 walleyed pike were planted in the lake six years ago, and this large fish is a sign they are doing well in the cold water.”

25 YEARS AGO: “Squirrel sparks power outage: A curious squirrel caused power outages throughout downtown Durango this morning after he fell into a reclosure system at an electrical transmitter. A resident reported seeing sparks fly during the incident. The squirrel did not survive.
