50 years ago: It was a clear, unseasonably warm first day of December, and locals found themselves wondering if the first snow would ever arrive, with no winter storms in the Durango area’s forecast. Kids were even seen the day before playing a game of football at Needham Elementary School, enjoying the sunshine.
25 years ago: Durango was beginning to look a lot like the holiday season. An impressive turnout of more than 300 carolers participated in the caroling procession and tree-lighting ceremony during the weekend. People walked and sang merrily, despite the 14 inches of snow and frustrated drivers on Main Avenue. There were several road traffic accidents reported; though no one was seriously injured.
