50 YEARS AGO: “Three persons died as the result of a head-on collision five miles south of Pagosa Springs on U.S. 84, the climax of a high-speed police chase. The Colorado highway death toll as of Saturday stood at 300. One year ago the toll stood at 217.”

25 YEARS AGO: “Two men face charges following a two-day credit-card crime spree that left Visa $1,000 poorer, but a Durango waitress with a $20 tip on a $15 dinner. Police pulled the two men from the Animas River behind the Durango Mall after they attempted to elude capture.”
