75 years ago: Because of the ample supply of straw in Durango during the time and the “many new creations in straw hats” during the year, straw hat sales increased from the previous spring.
50 years ago: Arson was the suspected cause of three fires in Durango. In one instance, witnesses reported watching three boys break a window of one of the houses with a large rock and, upon investigating afterward, found the house in flames.
25 years ago: An fire alarm was reported at Community Connections on Forest Avenue, which turned out to be the result of a burned chicken dinner.
